Insulation Removal & Clean up
Insulation provides a critical barrier to heat transfer. While many people on Cape Cod realize the importance of insulation in their homes, especially during the coldest and hottest months of the year, they may not realize that insulation becomes less effective over time. The most common factors that can significantly cause harm to your insulation and diminish its lifespan include rodent/wildlife damage, fire damage or water damage.

Rodent and wildlife damage or infestation is one of the main reasons for insulation removal. Insulation is warm, dry, and secluded from predators and elements making it their ideal nesting place. When unwanted guests live in your insulation, it poses many health risks for the homeowners. These health risks are the reason it is recommend to have professionals remove your insulation. It is the most effective way to limit the exposure of you and your family to harmful rodent-borne viruses that remain after the rodents infestation.

Fire damage can damage your insulation and hinders its ability to work effectively. Even if the fire did not come in direct contact with the insulation, the smell of smoke can become trapped in the insulation and be a massive nuisance for homeowners that can linger for many years if not addressed properly.

Water damage will undoubtedly damage your insulation. When water enters your house through a leak or another damaged component of your house, it dramatically affects your house’s insulation. Insulation is a porous and fibrous substance, so water can be its worst enemy. Not only will it damage the insulation and limit its effectiveness, but it will also contribute to mildew growth which could become a serious health concern for you and your family.

No matter the reason for your insulation removal, the process is generally the same. Before we begin, we remove or cover all personal belongings with plastic to keep your items clean. Then, to ensure not to contaminate the house, we will seal off the work area from the living space including any air ducts. We then remove and dispose of the infected insulation. After everything is removed, we begin to clean the area by HEPA vacuuming, sanitizing any infected areas and wiping down all the affected surfaces. If there are dead rodents and carcesses, we will properly dispose of them.

Why remove damaged insulation?
Energy Efficiency
Damaged insulation can lose its ability to retain heat or cool air, causing your home to become less energy-efficient. This can lead to higher heating and cooling costs.
Pest control
Rodents can carry diseases, parasites, and bacteria that can be transmitted to humans through urine, feces, or even through direct contact with contaminated insulation. This poses health risks like respiratory issues, salmonella, and hantavirus.
Air quality
Damaged or moldy insulation can negatively impact your indoor air quality, leading to respiratory issues, other health problems and creates unpleasant odors in your home.
